How to get to Mayne Island

Ferry from Tsawwassen or Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island. During the summer reservations are recommended.

Sea Air or Harbour Air from the south terminal of Vancouver Airport

DIRECTIONS TO SEAL BEACH FROM THE FERRY TERMINAL

When leaving the ferry terminal, turn LEFT. Follow Village Bay Road for 1.5Kms., when the road curves to the left, take the next street on the LEFT (Maple Drive) to Seal Beach.

Kayakers are welcome to camp at Mayne Island Eco Camping

Mayne Island is located within easy paddling distance of:
Galiano Island, Samuel Island, the Belle Chain
Islets, Saturna Island, North & South Pender Islands,
Prevost Island, the Red Islets, and Saltspring Island.

Local Wildlife

Here's just a sampling of the wide array of native wildlife you can expect to see on Mayne Island: Chipmunks, Black Tail Deer, wild Mink and Marten, River Otters, Raccoons, Squirrels, Stellar and California Sea lions, Harbour seals, Orca whales, Dolphins.

Crows, Ravens, Ducks, Bald eagles, Cormorants, Oyster catchers, King fishers, Grouse, Gulls, Hawks, Herons, Hummingbirds, Ospreys, Turkey Vultures, Pheasants, Quail and Woodpeckers.

Clams, Crabs, Octopus, Sea Birds, Sea Cucumbers, Shellfish, Shrimp, Whales, Perch, Salmon, Trout, Walleye, Ling Cod, and Rockfish.

Cedar, Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Balsam, Alder, Arbutus, Madrona, Apple, Ash, Cherry, Maple, Daisy, Rhododendron, Berries, Ferns, Moss, Lichen, Seaweed and Thistle.

Other Activities on Mayne

Cycling - the island is 5 km. wide and 8 km long with a pleasant mix of flat and hilly terrain.

Hiking - there are several marked and maintained trails.

Nature walks - mushroom hunting, wild flowers, wild life, intertidal life, scuba diving, sailing, fishing [salmon, cod, red snapper], sightseeing
